Western Mines Group (ASX:WMG) has received further support that the Mulga Tank Project in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia, is a “major” hybrid nickel sulphide mineral system.
The company has received the final geochemical assay results from the deep diamond drillhole MTD029, which show four broad zones of disseminated nickel sulphide mineralisation.
Results included 1,247m @ 0.28% nickel, 134 parts per million (ppm) cobalt, 76ppm copper, 24 parts per billion platinum and palladium from 108m.
Western Mines, which has a market capitalisation of $11.74 million, says the results support the conclusion that the Mulga Tank Complex is still relatively in-situ.
Managing Director Caedmon Marriott says the results highlight the scale of the shallow, open-pittable, upper most mineralisation.
“At depth the architecture of the complex is beginning to reveal itself,” Marriott says.
“A dolerite still can be traced in the drilling across several kilometres, beneath which is a consistent thickness of 800m of complex before intersecting the basal footwall.
“The geochemical signature of this lower dunite assemblage highlights three zones of richer mineralisation, interspersed by two unmineralised portions.”
Marriott adds that the bottom two mineralised zones are “exciting,” with visual indications of mineralisation confirmed by geochemical assay.
“The upper of these two zones in MTD029 contained 126m @ 0.42% Ni, corresponding to 96m at 0.40% Ni in hole MTD027, 845m further east,” he says.
In light of recent results, further exploration drilling is planned with the aim of continuing to unlock the complex.
The company intends to conduct an initial resource estimate for the shallow disseminated mineralisation and has begun a second phase of metallurgical testwork.
The Mulga Tank Project on the Minigwal Greenstone Belt in Western Australia, is considered prospective for nickel, cobalt, copper, and platinum group elements.
Western Mines is a junior mineral explorer focused on the discovery and development of gold and battery metal deposits.
