Throughout the June quarter, Western Mines Group (ASX:WMG) continued confirming Mulga Tank’s discovery of a major nickel sulphide mineral system via drilling.
At the beginning of the quarter, Western Mines completed 17 holes for 5,534m of reverse circulation drilling. Some of the assay results include up to 0.31% nickel, 260 parts per million copper, and 36 parts per billion platinum and palladium.
Western Mines, which has a market capitalisation of $19.82 million, says through the exploration incentive scheme co-funded diamond hole, the company confirmed “strong evidence for the system to host a massive sulphide component”.
Drilling to date at Mulga Tank has highlighted an extensive magmatic nickel sulphide mineral system within the complex, with visible nickel sulphide encountered nearly everywhere the company has drilled.
Western Mines adds “significant” type two Mt Keith-style disseminated nickel sulphide mineralisation has been shown across the majority of the main body of the complex.
Meanwhile, on July 4, the company said further drillholes will continue to be added to its exploration activities, with ongoing targeting work, as Western Mines explores the Mulga Tank ultramafic complex.
At the Jasper Hill Project, field reconnaissance work has been completed, including geological mapping, high-resolution ground magnetic survey, and locating historical drill collars and registered Aboriginal heritage sites.
The company has also completed a desktop review of the project and made plans for an extensive fieldwork program to take place. This program will include ground magnetics, ground gravity, and soil and rock chip sampling surveys.
At the Youanmi Project, the company conducted fieldwork during the previous quarter. Results are being processed and additional fieldwork will be planned at Youanmi over the second half of this year.
A field visit was conducted at the Melita Project, with a gravity survey, geological mapping, and sampling completed over the Airstrip Gossan area.
Western Mines says numerous additional outcrops of copper-lead-zinc gossans were uncovered and sampled. Results from the fieldwork are being interpreted and will be used to plan the next steps.
Meanwhile, at the Pinyalling Project, an initial field reconnaissance visit was completed, where numerous sub-cropping and outcropping pegmatites were encountered and sampled.
The company has planned a soil sampling survey to test the gold potential of the area.
As of 30 June 2024, the company had $2.126 million cash and cash equivalents at hand, according to its latest quarterly report.
Western Mines is a mineral explorer focused on gold, nickel, cobalt, copper, platinum group elements in Western Australia.
