Western Mines Group (ASX:WMG) is mobilising to site to resume a fourth phase exploration drilling program at the Mulga Tank Nickel-Cobalt-Copper-Platinum Group Metals Project in Western Australia.
A combination of reverse circulation and diamond drilling will be carried out. The programs will aim to infill and extend the recent resource estimate, as well as testing high-impact targets at Mulga Tank.
Further holes will be added to follow-up results within drillhole MTRC046 and target the western margin of the Mulga Tank Complex following a review of the basal architecture and mapping of high-grade and high-tenore massive sulphide globules.
Western Mines, which has a market capitalisation of $13.55 million, says a downhole electromagnetic survey crew is also scheduled to mobilise to site over the coming weeks to survey numerous phase three drillholes.
The results will be used to support the placement of the follow-up diamond holes in these areas.
Managing Director Caedmon Marriott says it has been under nine months since the third phase drilling was completed.
“RC drilling at the project has been very good at quickly, and relatively cheap, defining extensive disseminated nickel sulphide mineralisation as highlighted by our mineral resource estimate in April,” Marriott says.
“With a significant initial mineral resource defined, the company can now swing the bat a bit with further diamond holes testing for basal massive sulphide accumulations in what we believe is a hybrid type 1-2 system.”
The phase four drilling program is partially funded through a previously reported capital raise and two grants under the Western Australian Exploration Incentive Scheme.
Mulga Tank is an extensive magmatic nickel sulphide mineral system with an initial resource of more than 5.3 million tonnes of contained nickel.
The project also contains the entire Mulga Tank Ultramafic Complex — a major ultramafic dunite intrusion analogous to complexes hosting the Mt Keith and Perseverance nickel deposits.
