Western Mines Group (ASX:WMG) has revealed the outcome of geochemical assays at its Mulga Tank Project, 190km northeast of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.
Three phase-four reverse circulation drill holes have unearthed what Western Mines calls “high-grade” results. They highlight “broad intersections” of nickel sulphide mineralisation with further “higher grade” result intervals.
Hole MTRC069 produced the project’s “second highest grade nickel” with 2.17% nickel at 4m. At 225m it returned 0.32% nickel, 145 parts per million (ppm) of cobalt, and 95 ppm of copper from 93m.
Exploration activity from the past three years shows “significant” nickel sulphide mineralisation and an “extensive” nickel sulphide mineral system within the ultramafic complex.
Rain and bad weather closed local roads, prevented site access, and delayed drilling work for “extended periods of time”. Limited fuel availability prompted Western Mines to adopt less fuel-intensive diamond drilling instead of reverse circulation technology. The company’s fuel reserves are estimated to last between two and three weeks.
“MTRC069 again shows we can expect surprises and higher-grade results as we increase the drilling density within this mineralised system, with the potential to hit smaller high-grade accumulations,” Managing Director Caedmon Marriott says.
“Despite weather and emerging fuel issues the company is continuing to progress the current drilling programs as best we can.”
