The Western Australian Government has awarded contracts to Georgiou Group and SRG Global McConnell Dowell to replace 44.5km of ageing sections of the Goldfields pipeline.
These awarded contracts mark the government taking one step closer to delivering its $543 million upgrade of the Goldfields and Agricultural Water Supply Scheme.
Delivered by Water Corporation, stage one includes pipeline renewal, valve upgrades, and duplication of the Binduli Reservoir.
Pipe sections are being manufactured by Steel Mains in Kwinana using Pilbara iron ore and lined with Cockburn Cement concrete, with the project supporting more than 230 jobs.
Construction of the duplicated Binduli Reservoir in Kalgoorlie-Boulder is expected to begin later this year, providing a further boost to local employment and economic activity.
Water Minister Don Punch says this investment will increase the scheme’s capacity and reliability to support future growth across the Goldfields and Wheatbelt, while delivering jobs and opportunities for local businesses.
“More than $170 million from these contracts will be spent with Western Australian contractors and subcontractors, including at least $7 million with Aboriginal businesses, ensuring the benefits of this major infrastructure investment stay in Western Australia and contribute to a stronger, more diversified economy,” Punch says.
Stretching from Mundaring to Kalgoorlie, the Goldfields and Agricultural Water Supply Scheme supplies more than 100,000 homes, farms, mines, and businesses across the Goldfields and Wheatbelt.
The investment is part of the state government’s commitment to deliver infrastructure WA needs while supporting economic growth, creating local jobs, and strengthening long-term water security for regional communities.
