Westar Resources begins 6,000m AC drill program at Gidgee North Project in WA

Westar Resources (ASX:WSR) has begun its maiden 6,000m aircore (AC) drill program at the Gidgee North Project located in the Meekatharra-Wiluna-Sandstone region of Western Australia.

The initial AC drill program’s purpose is to test multiple gold and supergene copper-zinc targets. Westar’s drilling targets were generated and refined both in-house and with the assistance of specialist consultants using the company’s extensive datasets.

Commenting on the drill program, Westar’s Managing Director Karl Jupp says: “Westar is delighted to announce the commencement drilling activities for 2023, with a robust program testing multiple priority gold and also copper/zinc targets over approximately 10km of strike at the Gidgee North Project.

“Many of the targets will be drill tested for the first time, having never seen a drill bit, despite the renowned gold endowment of the Gum Creek Greenstone Belt”

Many of the targets will be drill tested for the first time, having never seen a drill bit, despite the renowned gold endowment of the Gum Creek Greenstone Belt.”

Westar reports it has progressed target definition at Gidgee North, focusing primarily on prospects south of the rabbit proof fence (SRPF) which are currently being drill tested.

The company hopes this drilling will define the continuity and outline the extent of supergene copper originally identified in the early 1990s by Pancontinental Mining, as well as outlining the extents of the volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) system confirmed by the 2022 reverse circulation (RC) drill program.

The Gidgee North Project lies within the Gum Creek Greenstone Belt (GCGB) of the Youami Terrane, which forms a lensed, broadly sinusoidal belt which measures about 100km in length and 24km in width. The GCGB has historically produced over 1Moz of gold and hosts over 2.3Moz of gold Mineral Resource.

Westar Resources is a Perth-based mineral exploration company, primarily focused on the discovery and development of ‘high-quality’ previous and future metal assets in Western Australia. Its projects are strategically located in the highly prospective Pilbara, Murchison, and Yilgarn regions of WA.
