Viking Mines (ASX:VKA) has delivered a “high-grade” visible gold intercept during a greenfields drilling program at the Bifrost Target within the Riverina East Project in Western Australia.
The intercept, 2m @ 23.6 grams per tonne gold from 124m, remains open with no drilling for 1.7km north and 1.1km south.
Viking Mines adds the intercept occurs within two broader gold anomalous zones registering more than 50 parts per billion that returned intercepts of 6m @ 8g/t gold from 123m and 21m @ 0.4g/t gold from 96m.
The company says the visible gold and extent of the broad gold anomaly is interpreted to represent a significant volume of mineralising fluid flow through the host rocks, highlighting the significant potential of the discovery.
CEO Julian Woodcock says this is an “exceptional” result in an underexplored area of the project.
“The drilling result at Bifrost is exactly the style and type of mineralisation we have been targeting with our exploration program,” Woodcock says.
“We hold 25km of strike length along the prolific Zuleika Shear and it is renowned to host multiple significant deposits which are characterised by narrow veins, often less than 2m thickness but with exceptionally high grades.”
The company says work is ongoing at the Central Duplex Target within Riverina East, with the interpretation and assessment of pathfinder geochemistry yet to be completed.
Viking Mines plans to assess the results and undertake a follow-up program which may include further infill auger drilling and potential for follow-up reverse circulation drill testing.
Activities are continuing to advance at Riverina East, with the aim of discovering new gold deposits. The following activities currently underway include receiving QAQC verification and interpretation of the remaining assays from the phase-two drilling program.
Viking Mines also plans to complete high-resolution magnetic geophysics to support targeting and structural interpretation to provide focus areas for follow-up drilling over the large target area.
Upon completion, an underground mining assessment of the First Hit Mine will also be completed.
The Riverina East Project, formerly known as the First Hit Gold Project, is centred around the historical First Hit Mine which sits along the Ida and Zuleika Shear zones in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia.
