The US and India have signed a bilateral Critical Minerals Framework in New Delhi, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two countries.
The Framework outlines a focus on joint efforts to secure critical mineral supply chains, shield them from “coercive market practices”, and “reduce our collective vulnerability to single-source monopolies”.
The Framework also aims to strengthen cooperation between the two nations across the critical mineral and rare earth value chains, including mining, processing, recycling, and investment.
The new Framework builds on a vision initiated by US President Donald J. Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2025, when a joint statement highlighted the strategic importance of secure and resilient critical mineral supply chains.
The US-India Framework builds on other similar agreements the US has made with countries around the world as it seeks to secure the supply of key metals and minerals for defence, advanced manufacturing, AI, energy storage, and the green transition.
