Unico Silver (ASX:USL) has made a number of new appointments as a part of its strategy to strengthen its development capacity in Argentina.
The company has appointed Peter Holmes as an Executive Director and Chairman of the Technical Committee, effective as of today (27 January).
Holmes has over 35 years of experience in the mining industry, spanning from mine construction, project execution, operations, and corporate leadership roles for gold and copper operations in Australia, Asia, North America, and South America.
His experience includes senior leadership roles with De Grey Mining, Barrick Mining (TSX:ABX), SolGold (LSE:SOLG), and Beadell Resources. Holmes acted as COO during his time at Beadell.
Holmes’ role with Unico will see him overseeing feasibility studies and execution planning for Joaquin and Cerro Leon, mine design, processing, infrastructure, and capital development strategies, as well as risk management and project readiness.
Unico has also promoted non-executive director Peter Canterbury to Executive Director, due to his increased involvement in development execution, financing strategy, and corporate oversight.
Canterbury has accumulated over 30 years of experience in corporate finance, project development, and capital markets. His most recent role ahead of his time at Unico was acting as CFO for De Grey Mining.
He will provide direct oversight of the company’s development financing strategy, capital structuring, and project commercialisation pathways as Unico progresses towards a maiden Feasibility Study.
Meanwhile, Unico is implementing a long-term incentive framework to key development milestones.
Managing Director Todd Williams says these appointments act as a “significant” step forward as the company transitions from explorer to developer.
“With Joaquin and Cerro Leon advancing toward feasibility studies and permitting, it is critical that we continue to strengthen our board and executive capability with individuals who have a proven track record of building and financing large-scale mining projects,” Williams says.
“Peter Holmes brings decades of hands-on experience in mine construction, project execution, and operational readiness, having led multiple projects from feasibility through to construction and into production.
“Peter Canterbury’s transition to Executive Director reflects the increasing focus on execution, financing strategy and commercial outcomes.
“Peter has played a pivotal role in the development and financing of tier one mining assets and his deeper involvement is a strong endorsement of the quality of Unico’s asset base and its development potential.”
