Trek Metals to test ‘exciting’ Pincunah gold target

Trek Metals (ASX:TKM) is gearing up to begin a maiden drilling program at its Champagne Pool epithermal gold prospect in Western Australia.

The Champagne Pool target sits within the company’s Pincunah Gold Project, located 100km south of Port Hedland in the company of major operations owned by Pilbara Minerals (ASX:PLS) and Fortescue Metals (ASX:FMG).

“After Trek discovered a large, robust multi-element soil anomaly at the Valley of the Gossans prospect, our exploration team, supported by expert independent consultants, have now identified a very exciting new gold opportunity along strike from the base metal target,” CEO Derek Marshall says.

Drilling aims to test beneath the coincident anomaly and collect samples for analysis Trek hopes will confirm the epithermal gold mineralisation model and herald a new discovery for a potentially ‘very valuable’ style of mineralisation.

The program will consist of 3 holes initially, at a depth of 250m each. Additional holes will be added if visual mineralisation is confirmed.

Marshall says the exploration team has uncovered a ‘favourable’ zone along the same geological horizon that is interpreted to represent the cap of a buried epithermal gold system.

“This is of critical importance, as our previous drilling at VOG indicated that, while we were within a large mineralised system, the gold zone had likely been eroded away and we were left with the root of the system,” he says.

“The newly identified target at Champagne Pool appears to have the entire system preserved, presenting a very compelling drill target.”

Trek noted that earthmoving has been completed and a drill contractor is secured for the program, which is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.

Trek Metals is a battery metals explorer focused on investigating frontier locations with the aim of unlocking hidden value in under-explored regions.

As of 31 December 2023, the company had $6.1 million cash at hand, according to its latest quarterly report.
