TG Metals Limited (ASX:TG6) has filed a provisional patent application for its proprietary lithium spodumene recovery technology from the Burmeister deposit at the Lake Johnston project in Western Australia.
The patent application will help the company secure the intellectual property rights for the technology, which TG reports is a way to enhance the metallurgical flowsheet for the Burmeister deposit.
CEO David Selfe says the discovery of this process is a “game changer” for the project, allowing an upgraded method of flotation recovery of the dense media separation downstream stage.
“Higher overall recoveries translate into lower processing costs and a higher quality concentrate which increases margins,” Selfe says.
“The enhanced flowsheet will form the basis of future feasibility studies. An added bonus is the potential to commercialise the patent via licensing agreements.”
TG Metals, which has a market capitalisation of $21.09 million, believes the technology can be used with other minerals as well.
As a result, TG Metals has introduced the process to its hybrid flowsheet for the project, with plans on integrating the new technology into future metallurgical research.
The company notes there are additional market opportunities through royalty streams or licensing arrangements.
The Lake Johnson Project is located approximately 300km from Kalgoorlie in the Southern Goldfields region of Western Australia.
