Western Australian-based minerals exploration company Terrain Minerals (ASX:TMX) reports it has uncovered up to 20 pegmatites following recent field mapping activities at its 100% owned Smokebush Gold Project in Western Australia (WA).
The company reports that pegmatites are the preferred host lithology of lithium mineralisation across Western Australia.
The new-found Smokebush pegmatites were discovered within the so-called ‘Goldilocks zone’, being the distance between 2km and 6km from the Mt Mulgine granite intrusive immediately west of the Smokebush tenements and is interpreted as being the most prospective zone within a pegmatite for lithium (Li2O) mineralisation.
Following the discovery, Terrain Minerals’ geological team are reported to be taking rock chip samples from the pegmatites that will be tested for Li2O mineralisation.
Assays from sample testing are expected to be received by the company in February 2023.
The company also notes that these pegmatites have been discovered following the acquisition of the outstanding 20% of the Smokebush joint venture (JV) tenements, as announced by Terrain Minerals earlier this month.
Terrain Minerals is a minerals exploration company that is focused on the world class Eastern Goldfields and Yalgoo mineral fields of Western Australia. The company’s Smokebush project is located about 85km east-northeast of the township of Perenjori and about 65km west of Paynes Find within Western Australia’s Yalgoo Mineral Field.
The project is contained within 5 contiguous prospecting licences and 4 exploration licences and is host to multiple drill targets and several other prospective areas. Historical exploration of the tenements has returned gold (Au) grades of up to 11.3g/t Au and 9.2g/t Au.
Other projects currently held in Terrain Minerals’ WA-based arsenal include the 100% owned Lord River Rare Earth Element (REE), Wild-Viper Gold and Calytrix base metal and gold exploration projects.
