Teck Resources (NYSE:TECK) and Anglo American (LSE:AAL) have established the executive leadership team for Anglo Teck, the combined company expected to complete its merger between September 2026 and March 2027.
Anglo American CEO Duncan Wanblad will lead Anglo Teck as chief executive, while Teck CEO Jonathan Price becomes deputy chief executive and chief strategy officer.
The executive leadership team combines leaders from both companies, with Anglo American Chief Financial Officer John Heasley continuing as chief financial officer and Chief Operating Officer Ruben Fernandes maintaining his role.
Price says establishing the leadership team represents a ‘significant’ next step in the creation of Anglo Teck.
“We are setting up [Anglo Teck] to be a top-tier global copper producer with world-class operations and exceptional growth opportunities,” Price says.
The regional leadership structure includes Brock Gill as chief executive for Canada and US operations, Tony Power leading Peru, Ana Sanches overseeing Brazil, Dale Webb managing Chile, and Mpumi Zikalala heading Kumba Iron Ore (JSE:KIO).
Anglo Teck will establish its global headquarters in Vancouver, where the chief executive, deputy chief executive, chief financial officer, and majority of senior management will be based.
Corporate offices in London and Johannesburg will support global operations.
Wanblad says the merger aims to form “a global metals and minerals powerhouse offering investors more than 70% exposure to copper”.
Anglo Teck is set to become one of the world’s largest copper producers, combining producing operations including copper assets alongside iron ore and zinc businesses. The portfolio includes major brownfield and greenfield copper development projects across established mining jurisdictions.
The merger targets annual pretax synergies of approximately US$800 million ($1.14 billion) by the fourth year following completion, with 80% expected by the second year.
Sheila Murray, currently Teck chair, will also chair the Anglo Teck board. The merger remains conditional on final regulatory approval within the previously announced timeline.
Teck Resources is a Canadian resource company with a portfolio of copper and zinc operations across North and South America.
