Battery anode and advanced minerals company Talga Group (ASX:TLG) has uncovered ‘large’ lithium-bearing pegmatites at its wholly owned Aero Project in northern Sweden.
Geological mapping has defined a 14km long corridor of flat-lying pegmatites at the project (formerly Aitik East), with the largest having surface exposure of 1,100m long and 450m wide.
Additional targets across 134km-square are yet to be field checked, according to Talga.
The $442 million market capitalisation reports laboratory assays of 26 rock chip samples have also returned ‘highly anomalous’ values in lithium, rubidium, caesium, and gallium, with several samples containing ‘high-grade’ lithium mineralisation up to 1.95% lithium oxide.
Visible lithium mineralisation has been interpreted to occur at or near the base of the flat-lying pegmatite sheets, indicating mineralised zones are poorly exposed at the present erosional surface but may extend under the surface of the sheets.
Talga says other key observations of the 2023 fieldwork include consistently anomalous gallium (up to 56 parts per million), a low rubidium-to-lithium ratio (a distinguishing feature of spodumene rich systems), and the ‘stacked’ pegmatite sheets in several locations.
The company also notes the potential value and strategic importance of a ‘large’ lithium source in Europe supports further evaluation of the Aero project
Further surface sampling, mapping and geophysical surveys are planned to define a suite of ‘high priority’ targets for drilling. Further fieldwork is planned to restart in September, subject to ongoing results, site clearances, and budget approvals.
