Viking Mines (ASX:VKA) has completed the strategic acquisition of a comprehensive technical dataset for the Linka Project in Nevada, US for US$35,000 ($51,556), saving the company months of fieldwork and an estimated $1 million in exploration costs.
The data represents approximately 2,816m of historical drilling, including 68 drillholes (8 diamond and 60 percussion) across the Linka, Hillside, and Conquest targets.
The data also includes high-quality scans of cross-sections and maps from the late 1970s, providing Viking with critical information on the location of the ‘high-grade’ zones of the Linka tungsten system.
CEO Julian Woodcock says that the acquisition of this dataset cuts the time needed to advance Linka substantially, and cuts the capital outlay as well.
“We are extremely fortunate to have been able to source this information and have commenced with converting the information into digital format to bring into 3D geological modelling software,” Woodcock says.
“Upon completion of the airborne survey at the project, we will have the necessary ground features to accurately georeference the historical maps and sections to allow us to extract the drillhole collar information and build a drillhole database.”
Viking is currently integrating this data into its digital information database, with a focus on georeferencing and digitisation. Once the 3D modelling is complete, the data will be used to finalise drill targets for a notice of intent submission to federal agencies.
