Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (ASX:SXE) (SCEE) has been awarded a switchboard replacement contract with a subsidiary of mining giant BHP (ASX:BHP) as part of a multi-million-dollar string of new projects.
The $211.8 million market capitalisation company has been awarded more than $50 million worth of contracts for electrical design, construction, and services across a range of sectors and jurisdictions.
SCEE says the work for BHP Iron Ore has been awarded to its SCEE Electrical arm, which will replace and upgrade substations, switchboards, equipment, and cabling for the iron ore business.
The company reports that the completion of this project is scheduled for January 2026.
Meanwhile, Multiplex Constructions has awarded SCEE’s Heyday business the electric design and construct works package associated with Separable Portion 13 – Hyperscale 2 tranche 2 at the NEXTDC SYD03 Artamon New South Wales data centre — where Heyday is already working.
SCEE states this is the third ‘significant’ project award to Heyday at this data centre and will see Heyday fit out the new Level 5 Hyperscale Data Hall, including lighting, cable supports, sub-main cabling, and an over-the-rack busway system, together with the installation of 4 new power system modules.
The company expects to have these works completed in October 2024.
SCEE also notes Richard Crookes Constructions has awarded Heyday with an electrical services design and construct contract for the City Tattersall’s Club redevelopment project on Pitt Street in Sydney.
As part of this Sydney contract, the venue will undergo a ‘major’ renovation and redevelopment, under which a 51-level tower comprising 241 apartments and a 110-room hotel will be constructed. SCEE states work has begun and is expected to conclude in Q1 2027.
SCEE’s Trivantage Manufacturing arm has been employed by both Siemens (N.Z.) and Teck Global to supply power distribution equipment to be installed as part of the second expansion phase at the DCI Data Centre in Auckland, New Zealand, and deliver a range of low-voltage switchboards that will form part of a Battery Energy Storage Project in Kwinana, Western Australia, respectively.
SCEE Group Managing Director Graeme Dunn says these awards are a testament to the company’s diversity and range across Australia.

The company also announces that consistent with its board’s succession plan, Derek Parkin will retire from his position as Chairman on 31 October 2023. Parkin will continue as an independent Non-Executive Director but retain his positions as Chairman of the Audit and Risk Management Committee and member of the nomination and remuneration committee.
SCEE adds independent Non-Executive Director Karl Paganin will accede to the role of Chairman immediately after Parkin’s resignation.
