Sarytogan Graphite (ASX:SGA) has received an environmental permit for the development of its graphite mine at its namesake project in Kazakhstan.
The environmental permit, which was approved by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, covers open pit mining of graphite ore, storage of mine waste, and landfill waste.
Sarytogan Graphite, which has a market capitalisation of $10.3 million, says the permit is the final necessary prelude to the granting of the mining licence.
According to the Kazakh mining code, the licence is to be issued within 10 working days of the environmental permit in January 2025.
Managing Director Sean Gregory says this is an important milestone in developing the Sarytogan Graphite Project.
“It is the culmination of several years of environmental studies and engagement with the local communities,” Gregory says.
The Sarytogan Graphite Project sits in the Karaganda region of Central Kazakhstan. A Prefeasibility Study on the project outlined a 50,000 tonnes per year staged development profile over an initial 60-year mine life.
This allows the declaration of an 8.6 million tonnes at 30% total graphitic carbon probable ore reserve.
Sarytogan Graphite is an emerging graphite developer focused on its wholly owned namesake project.
