Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR) has appointed finance industry veteran Megan Jansen as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective from 2 October 2023.
The company says Jansen brings more than 20 years of experience across finance, commercial, business integration, mergers and acquisitions, shared services, and transformation projects.
Sandfire reports prior to joining the company, Jansen held roles with other various industries and organisations in the United Kingdom (UK), most recently serving as Global Head of Finance at mining-tech company Imdex (ASX:IMD).
Jansen began her career at Ernst & Young, is a chartered accountant, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Curtin University.
Jansen will pick up the mantle left behind by long-serving CFO Matthew Fitzgerald, who will be stepping down from the role on 30 September 2023.
During his tenure with Sandfire, Fitzgerald was a ‘key’ member of the Executive team through the company’s discovery, a $380 million financing, and the development and operation of the DeGrussa Copper Operations in Western Australia.
Fitzgerald also oversaw the acquisition, financing, and construction of the Motheo Copper Mine in Botswana, as well as the strategic acquisition of the MATSA Copper Operations in southern Spain. The CFO has also been described as being a ‘significant’ player in supporting the company’s growth from a junior explorer into an emerging international ASX 200 copper miner.
Commenting on the transition of the CFO role, Sandfire’s Managing Director and CEO, Brendan Harris, says, “Matthew has played a key role in the strategic and financial stewardship of Sandfire from its early days as a successful junior explorer to a company with a market capitalisation of $2.7 billion.
More recently during FY2023, he has been instrumental in the successful transitioning of our balance sheet to position the company well through its next phase, including re-sculpting of the US$432m MATSA Syndicated Debt Facility and initial US$140m 3.2Mtpa Motheo Project Finance Facility.
Well regarded and respected by his colleagues, we are particularly thankful for Matthew’s significant contribution to the company’s performance, growth, financing, and culture, and on behalf of the Sandfire Board and the Executive team, we sincerely wish him the best in his future endeavours.
