Black Canyon (ASX:BCA) sees this year’s RIU Explorers Conference held between 18-20 February in Fremantle as a “great opportunity” to explain its position on potentially supplying manganese ore for decades to come.
Speaking to Mining.com.au, Managing Director Brendan Cummins says the manganese ore supply will be based on “significant discoveries” made across its Balfour Manganese Field and its emerging Wandanya Project in Western Australia.
“I hope to engage directly with existing and potentially new investors and educate others on the importance of manganese to the steel and battery and EV market,” he tells this news service.
According to the US Geological Survey, manganese removes oxygen and sulphur when iron ore is converted into iron. Manganese is also an essential alloy that helps convert iron into steel. As an alloy, it decreases the brittleness of steel and imparts its strength.
Manganese is also a stabilising component in the cathodes of nickel-manganese-cobalt lithium-ion batteries used in EVs. The material increases energy density and hence improves driving range.
Black Canyon, which has a market capitalisation of $6.89 million, holds a more than 2,100km2 tenement package which contains several near-term development manganese deposits.
At the Balfour Manganese Field, the company has delineated a resource totalling 314 million tonnes @ 10.5% manganese containing 33.1 million tonnes of contained manganese.
The company has also uncovered the largest contained manganese deposits in Western Australia and the second largest in Australia.
Since Black Canyon listed on the ASX in 2021, the company has been associated with the RIU Explorers Conference.
The company has been associated with RIU since it listed on the ASX in 2021 and Cummins says it is a “great opportunity” to connect directly to the investing community.
“From my experience at the Freo conference I have met and spoken with a varied audience, some highly technical and others trying to understand manganese in the market,” he adds.
The RIU Explorers Conference has been showcasing leaders and executives in the mining and energy industries for over 24 years. Mining.com.au will also be in attendance at this year’s event.
