Resources & Energy Group Limited (ASX: REZ) has encountered further nickel + multi-element mineralisation from a four-hole drilling program at the Springfield prospect within its East Menzies Project, 130km north of Kalgoorlie.
Key results from four holes include:
- Hole SFRC01: 1m @1.78% Ni, 0.21% Cr, 5% S, 269ppm Mo and 245ppm Cu from 98m
- Hole SFRC04: 1m @ 0.5 % Ni, 0.19% Cr, 4.4% S, from 88m
- Hole SFRC05: 2m @ 1.02% Ni, 0.6% Cr, 0.4% Zn, from 29m and 2m @ 1.1 % Ni, 1% Cr, 0.49% S, 0.45% Zn, 0.07% Co from 36m, included within 9m @ 0.8 % Ni, 0.62% Cr, 0.31% Zn from 29m
The company reports that anomalous levels of silver, gold, copper, cobalt and PGE have also been encountered.
The Springfield prospect was identified by REZ during a review of data generated by historical exploration and gold mining activities carried out by CRA in 1969 and BHP in 1986. The data noted the presence of sulphides, which are considered prospective for volcanogenic nickel along with precious and base metal mineralisation.
Map displaying geology + drill results from Springfield and surrounding areasThe 1986 BHP data from the Cepline prospect, approximately 800m north, had reported “significantly high values of Ni with a maximum of 2.9%. Values greater than 1% included 3m @ 1.53% from 15m, 3m @ 2.27% from 31m and 2m @ 1.24% from 6m of depth”.
Earlier scout drilling (hole SFRC01) reported in September this year had returned ‘hints’ of nickeliferous sulphides, with peak assays of 3m @ 0.16% Ni from 34‐37m, and 6m@ 0.11% Ni from 61m down the hole.
Moving forward, REZ reports that it will carry out petrological assessment of samples from the drilling program to better-understand the mineralisation.
Approvals are also being sought for the construction of a sump to capture bore water, with the company noting that three of the holes were terminated short of their intended target due to excessive water usage.
