Resources & Energy Group (ASX: REZ) has reported shallow zones of disseminated nickel-bearing sulphide hosting elevated cobalt, palladium and platinum following a recently-completed drill campaign at its Springfield Prospect in Western Australia.
The results, generated from four of the last six RC drill holes completed at the prospect, returned nickel sulphides with a collective total of 200m of mineralisation, and are supported by additional historic results obtained from WAMEX.
Key intercepts include:
- Hole SFRC15: 33m @ 0.3% Ni, 0.02% Co and 0.32% S from 50m
- Hole SFRC10: 2m @ 3.5g/t Au from 32m
Further historical results from WAMEX include:
- Hole MZR005: 8m @ 0.64% Ni, 0.047% Co, 0.3% Pb, 1.55% Zn, 10.1g/t Ag and 1.07% S from 52m down hole
The company notes that these recent and historical intercepts support an extension of the prospective area to a strike length of 2.5km with over 6km² of fertile ground, opening up a ‘significant’ area of prospective coverage in the greater East Menzies Gold Project.
In addition, the discovery of magmatic nickel sulphides hosted within komatiites has provided further potential for a nickel sulphide deposit within the ultramafic package.
The 82km² Springfield Prospect is located in the Menzies Gold Field as part of the East Menzies Gold Project, approximately 130km north of Kalgoorlie.
East Menzies consists of three mining leases, two mining lease applications and 36 prospecting leases.
Moving forward, REZ reports that it plans to commence a ground Moving Loop Electromagnetic (MLEM) survey over the komatiitic basement while the company shifts exploration focus to the eastern and southwestern sides of the project.
