Power Minerals (ASX:PNN) reports it has started mineral resource definition drilling at the Salta Lithium-Brine Project in Argentina, aiming to update the mineral resource of the project.
Drilling has started at the Incahuasi salar (salt lake) located immediately adjacent to Ganfeng Lithium’s project in the region, and the company is planning to drill 2 diamond drillholes for a total of 1,000m at this prospect.
The company reports after drilling at Incahuasi, drilling will then progress to the Pocitos and Rincon salares, and the aim of the drilling campaign is to deliver a maiden resource at Incahuasi and Pocitos, and expand the existing mineral resource at Rincon, as well as support future development plans at the project.
Power Minerals Executive Director Mena Habib said the company is excited to have commenced resource definition drilling at the Salta Project.
“The program will aim to deliver a substantial resource upgrade at the project via targeted drilling at the Incahuasi, Pocitos and Rincon salares”
“The program will aim to deliver a substantial resource upgrade at the project via targeted drilling at the Incahuasi, Pocitos and Rincon salares, and represents a key step in our development pathway for the project.”
Power expects the Incahuasi drilling and sampling will take 8 to 10 weeks to complete, and lithium brine and drill core samples will then be sent for laboratory testing and chemical analysis, and the results will be released when available.
The company is also conducting a Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) geophysical survey program at the Salta project and along with its previous geophysical surveys and lithium exploration database, it will use the results to refine drill targets at the 3 prospects.
To date, Power has completed VES surveys at the Incahuasi and Rincon prospects, and a survey is currently underway at Pocitos, and the results have confirmed the potential for both prospects to host additional lithium brines, and it also highlights the mineral resource potential at Incahuasi and the mineral resource expansion potential at Rincon.
Power has contracted Hidrotec SLR, a local drilling contractor to undertake the drilling at the 3 prospects, and upon the completion of drilling at Incahuasi, the rig will be immediately relocated to the Pocitos prospect and then to the Rincon salar.
The Salta Project is located in the Salta province of northwest Argentina and is part of the Lithium Triangle, which Power says is the world’s leading lithium-brine region.
It consists of 5 salars (salt lakes) that sit within 7 mining leases over a total project area of 147.07km-square.
Power Minerals is a mineral resource exploration company with a portfolio of project in demand driven commodities, including the Salta Lithium-Brine Project and the Santa Ines Copper-Gold Project in Argentina, as well as the Eyre Peninsula Kaolin-Halloysite Project and the Musgrave Nickel-Copper-Cobalt-PGE Project in South Australia.
