Power Metallic shakes for SGS Canada’s metallurgical studies

Power Metallic Mines (TSX-V:PNPN) has contracted SGS Canada to carry out metallurgical studies for samples sourced from the Lion deposit within its Nisk Project in Québec, Canada. 

SGS Canada has a background of flotation metallurgical testing at its laboratory in Québec City, where compositing and flotation studies for Power Metallic will be conducted before analyses and environmental testing are conducted at Lakefield.

Metallurgical tests are expected to take 14 weeks to complete, with results not expected before January 2026.

The Lion deposit is prospective for two zones of mineralisation, separated by higher and lower grade quality. The majority of the metal value found at the deposit falls within the high-grade zone, hosting semi-massive and massive copper sulphide mineralisation.

Compiling a series of drill core reject material from the deposit, Power Metallic noted rejects to be representative of mineralisation across strike and down plunge, where the high-grade zone held 103 samples from 15 holes, and the low-grade zone held 99 samples from 10 holes. 

Each area provided 300kg worth of rejected material, which SGS Canada will utilise to formulate a 75kg composite for each zone before being homogenised to ensure consistency in subsampling practices.

Another 25kg will be taken from each 75kg composite to form a blended composite.

CEO Terry Lynch describes metallurgical testing and national instrument (NI) 43-101 reporting as one of the key steps to derisk the development of mining projects. 

“While we have no immediate plans to produce a NI 43-101 resource report, the results of this study will enable independent bank, company and industry analysts to utilise the appropriate resource recovery numbers while developing economic valuations on the Nisk project,” Lynch says. 

“In this respect, we are following the path well established by projects like Filo and Great Bear, who both posted assays and azimuths for their exploration results and allowed the analysts to speak to the economic potential of these projects.”

Power Metallic is a Canadian explorer focused on advancing its Nisk Project to become Canada’s next polymetallic mine.
