WA’s Pilbara region is bracing for destructive weather, with a tropical low expected to intensify into Tropical Cyclone Lucas by Friday afternoon:
- Iron ore ships ordered to evacuate anchorages at Port Hedland as the tropical low tracks south towards the coast:
- The Bureau of Meteorology is expecting the system to cross the Pilbara coast on Friday afternoon, with conditions worsening through Saturday
- Port Hedland is the world’s largest iron ore loading hub, serving BHP, Fortescue and Roy Hill
- Dalian iron ore futures close 0.9% higher in Thursday trade
