Western Mines Group (ASX:WMG) has received plenty of “exciting new information” for ongoing targeting work and geological modelling at its Mulga Tank Project, says Managing Director Caedmon Marriott.
The company has received geochemical assay results from three drillholes, part of the 19-hole phase three reverse circulation drilling program.
Western Mines, which has a market capitalisation of $18.73 million, says all of the holes showed broad zones of nickel sulphide mineralisation, with elevated nickel and sulphur coincident with highly anomalous copper and platinum group elements.
Drillhole MTRC056 intersected 201m @ 0.31% nickel, 134 parts per million (ppm) cobalt, 176ppm copper, and 15 parts per billion (ppb) platinum and palladium, while drillhole MTRC057 intersected 216m @ 0.27% nickel, 139ppm cobalt, 159ppm copper, and 13ppb platinum and palladium.
Meanwhile, drillhole MTRC058 intersected 209m @ 0.29% nickel, 132ppm cobalt, 50ppm copper, and 18ppb platinum and palladium.
Further to this, Marriott says 19 out of 19 holes of the phase-three program show mineralisation, which he notes is a “fantastic” result.
“Whilst some of them were infill, many were stepping out into new areas of the main body of the complex; extending mineralisation well outside the area modelled in our JORC exploration target,” he says.
“All three of these latest holes show 200m intervals of sulphide mineralisation, with sulphur associated chalcophile element results.
“Various intersections of higher grade results may provide vectors to further pods or zones of richer material.”

Western Mines recently completed a 24-hole for 7,400m reverse circulation drilling program to follow-up on previous exploration. Of these, 19 holes totalling 6,002m of drilling aimed to infill around previous holes and extend mineralisation to the south and east of previous drilling.
Assays from all of the drillholes have now been received.
The company intends to use these results to feed back into ongoing exploration targeting work, which aims to vector towards zones of high-grade mineralisation in what Western Mines believes is an extensive hybrid nickel sulphide mineral system.
The Mulga Tank Project is prospective for nickel, cobalt, copper, and platinum group elements. The project is a major ultramafic complex found on the underexplored Mingiwal Greenstone Belt in Western Australia.
