Mining contractor NRW Holdings (ASX:NWH) has won a $109 million contract with mining heavyweight BHP (ASX:BHP) for the Jimblebar Iron Ore Mine in Western Australia.
Under the contract, NRW will be responsible for the various civil, building, mechanical, and electrical works to support sustainable production at Jimblebar.
The project will include bulk earthworks and the construction of a number of permanent facilities, as well as the construction of a new floodway and a light vehicle access road complete with heavy and light vehicle standpipes and a washdown facility.
Additionally, the contract requires a high-density polyethylene pipeline re-alignment and installation of a 33 kilovolt overhead powerline.
Jimblebar is an open-cut pit iron ore mine located about 40km east of Newman, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
NRW will begin work in November 2024, with the project scheduled for completion in Q2 2026.
The project will require a team of up to 120 people and 55 items of plant and equipment.
This latest contract adds to NRW’s order book, which stood at around $5.5 billion for the 2024 financial year. In mid-August, the company said it had a solid pipeline of near-term prospects valued at $16.4 billion, with $5.5 billion of active tenders.
Since releasing its FY24 results, NRW has also announced a $360 million contract win with a subsidiary of Evolution Mining (ASX:EVN) for surface mining at the Castle Hill gold deposit in Western Australia.
NRW, which has a market capitalisation of $1.66 billion, operates three divisions – civil, mining and minerals, energy and technologies.
The civil and mining businesses provide civil construction, including bulk earthworks, road and rail construction and concrete installation, together with contract mining and drill and blast services.
NRW’s mining client list includes BHP, Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) and Fortescue (ASX:FMG).
