NRW Holdings (ASX:NWH) subsidiary Primero Group has been awarded a contract by Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) for work at the Western Range Iron Ore Project in Western Australia.
The mining services company reports the $54 million contract will run for about 12 months, starting in April 2023. Under the contract, Primero will be responsible for the design, supply, construction, and commissioning of the non-process infrastructure facilities on site.
This includes the refuelling facility, maintenance facilities for mobile equipment and the primary crusher, washdown facilities, a wastewater treatment plant, and water infrastructure.
Commenting on the contract, NRW Holdings Managing Director Jules Pemberton says: “This is an exciting opportunity as we continue to reinforce our long-term partnership with Rio Tinto through the delivery of world-class, non-process infrastructure, design, and construction performed in-house by Primero.”

The Rio Tinto Iron Ore Project lies in the Pilbara region of Western Australia and is held in a joint venture (JV) formed in September 2022 between Rio Tinto and Chinese stainless steel producer China Baowu Steel Group, with the companies holding a 54% and 46% interest in the project, respectively.
Rio Tinto says the annual production capacity of 25 million tonnes of iron ore at Western Range will help sustain production of the Pilbara Blend from its existing Paraburdoo mining hub.
