Nine Mile Metals (CSE:NINE) has added Mike Dufresne to its technical advisory committee, stepping into the role last week to assist with the development of the Bathurst Mining Camp in New Brunswick, Canada.
President and co-founder of APEX Geoscience, Dufresne is a registered geologist with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB) that has been involved in a range of discoveries in Western Australia, including the George-Goose Lake deposits that have estimated more than 4 million ounces of gold.
APEX Geoscience is a geological and geoscience consultancy that specialises in project implementation, field services, and geological interpretation and reporting, with professionals operating in more than 35 countries.
Nine Mile Metals believes Dufresne and his company will benefit Bathurst Mining Camp for their expertise in multidisciplined volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) exploration models with projects including Wolverine, Chu Chua and Red Mountain, as well as the Chester deposit within Bathurst.
Vice-President of Exploration Gary Lohman says the team is looking forward to working with Dufresne and APEX Geoscience to expand its portfolio.
“Mike will help move us forward to our 2025 exploration program goals, and he brings a wealth of VMS experience and knowledge, specifically on the BMC,” Lohman says.
“The data acquisition and work to date from EarthEx, now combined with Mike and Apex, gives us an incredibly powerful data and interpretation team based on local geology and leading-edge geophysics.”
The Bathurst Mining Camp spans 3,800km2 which hosts 95 occurrences of copper, lead, zinc, silver, and gold over 45 deposits.
As reported by Mining.com.au, CEO Patrick J Cruickshank believes VMS deposits offer a financial upside to metals production during a time of heightened prices.
With four projects in the district in New Brunswick, covering 136.34km2, Nine Mile Metals’ primary business objective is to explore its four VMS projects – Nine Mile Brook VMS Project, California Lake VMS Project, the Canoe Landing Lake (East – West) VMS Project, and the Wedge VMS Project.
The Bathurst Mining Camp (BMC) is one of the world’s oldest base metals mining districts and one of Canada’s largest VMS deposits. The host geology is referred to as the Bathurst Supergroup. It remains one of the most prospective districts globally for VMS, which are accumulations of metal sulphides that precipitate from heated hydrothermal fluid associated with volcanically active under-sea environments.
With electric vehicles in high demand to decrease carbon emissions output, copper is currently priced at US$4.88 ($7.48) per pound, representing a 22.59% increase for this year to date.
