The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has proposed commission hearing dates for NexGen Energy’s (ASX:NXG) Rook I Project in the Athabasca Basin in Canada.
The hearings will be held on 19 November 2025 and between 9-13 February 2026.
NexGen began the regulatory environmental assessment process for Rook I six years ago in April 2019. In November 2023, the company received provincial environmental assessment approval and has since completed the federal technical review.
In conjunction, the federal environmental impact statement has been accepted as final.
NexGen says all local communities located in the project area have also formally endorsed the Rook I development with the signing of impact benefit agreements covering the entire life and closure of operations.
NexGen notes while it is pleased with the commission hearing dates being established, it is considering, alongside its Indigenous Nation partners, the implications of the timing with respect to the project.
The Rook I Project, which has an 11.7 year mine life, is being developed into a large, low-cost uranium mine.
The project is supported by a NI 43-101 compliant Feasibility Study which outlines a total capital expenditure of C$2.2 billion ($2.4 billion), with a post-tax net present value of $6.32 billion and an internal rate of return of 45.2%.
