Western Mines Group (ASX:WMG) continues to hit nickel sulphide mineralisation, while also growing Mulga Tank Project’s mineral system with the latest drill results.
Assays have been received for five phase-three reverse circulation drillholes designed to test to the south of previous drilling at the Mulga Tank Project in Western Australia.
Western Mines, which has a market capitalisation of $20.43 million, says the latest results highlight broad intersections of nickel sulphide mineralisation, while also extending outside of previously known and tested zones within the Mulga Tank complex.
All of the holes ended in mineralisation, with drillhole MTRC051 returning 1m @ 1.18% nickel, 650 parts per million (ppm) cobalt, 0.67% copper and 0.31 grams per tonne platinum and palladium from 148m, from within a broader intercept of 130m @ 0.27% nickel, 136ppm cobalt, 252ppm copper, 20 parts per billion (ppb) platinum and palladium from 113m.
Hole MTRC055, meanwhile, returned 216m @ 0.30% nickel, 144ppm cobalt, 109ppm copper, 20ppb platinum and palladium from 84m, including a peak intercept of 1m at 2.46% nickel, 641ppm cobalt, 0.43% copper and 18ppb platinum and palladium from 183m.
Managing Director Dr Caedmon Marriott says some of the holes are well outside the area modelled in the exploration target, however Western Mines continues to see “nickel sulphide mineralisation and the system just keeps getting bigger”.
“Four of the holes show 200m intervals of sulphide mineralisation, with sulphur and associated chalcophile element results (copper and platinum group elements),” he says.
“Various intersections of higher grade results may provide vectors to further pods or zones of richer material.
“MTRC055 is the best hole of this batch of results returning 216m at 0.30% nickel, which contains a number of higher grade intervals including 11m at 0.62% nickel, with 4m at 1.16% nickel that had 1m at 2.46% nickel and 0.43% copper.”
Marriott says once again this shows the “extensive system” is capable of delivering strong nickel and copper grades.
“We’re continuously learning more about the Mulga Tank Complex, as these results and recent results from previous hole MTRC046 highlight. This information feeds back into our geological modelling and ongoing exploration targeting work.”
The company expects to update the market on further assay results from phase-three drilling program as they become available.
The Mulga Tank Project, which sits in the Minigwal Greenstone Belt in Western Australia, is considered prospective for nickel, cobalt, copper, and platinum group elements.
