Mining stocks lead S&P/ASX200

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) is up 21.60 points or 0.26% to 8,173 as of 11.12am AEST, with three of the top five performing stocks mining companies.

The top performers in the S&P/ASX200 include uranium producer Boss Energy (ASX:BOE) and gold producer Vault Minerals (ASX:VAU), up 6.78% and 5.43% respectively. 

Meanwhile, the $4 billion market capitalisation company Mineral Resources (ASX:MIN) is also 4.67% higher today (7 May).

Over the past five days, the index has gained 0.33% but is virtually unchanged over the last year to date.

The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market. 

The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.

It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
