The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) dropped 7.20 points this morning (14 October) to a total of 8,875.60 points at around 9.40am (AEST).
The index has dropped 0.91% over the late five days, though only sitting 1.98% below the 52-week high.
The materials sector is one of two sectors performing higher today, up 0.15%, with top performers including Iluka Resources (ASX:ILU), which has spiked 17.06% to a share price of $8.99.
Lynas Rare Earths (ASX:LYC) has jumped 7.25% to trade at $21.73 per share, with Liontown Resources (ASX:LTR) not far behind, rising 6.43% to a share price of $1.07.
The increase comes as the price of precious metals, gold and silver continue to excel.
The ABC Bullion has marked gold at US$4,122 ($6,327) per ounce at time of publishing, while silver is trading at US$53.52 per ounce.
The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for 80% of the country’s equity market.
The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.
It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
