Miners rise, ASX falls

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) is down 37.3 points this morning (9 July) with the S&P/ASX200 currently at 8,553.4 points at 10.20am (AEST), losing 0.52% over the past five days. 

The materials sector has risen 1.08%, with PLS (ASX:PLS), formerly Pilbara Minerals leading the gains list with a 4.05% jump to a share price of $1.54.

Iluka Resources (ASX:ILU) is following closely behind with a 3.34% rise in value, now trading at $4.02 per share after a change of substantial holding from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group.

Similarly with no news, metals miner IGO (ASX:IGO) has also made the top five, moving its share price to $4.36, representing a 1.16% increase. 

The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market. The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.

It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
