Miners push ASX higher

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) has gained 17.6 points this morning (24 July) to a 8,754.8 total at 10.05am (AEST).

The materials sector is leading gains with a 6.1% increase on the S&P/ASX200, with eight other sectors following suit.

The US market dropped two points to 804.48 on the S&P 500 at close on Wednesday 23 July, though seeing a return of 37.89% over the last year.

Although spiking the market, no mining companies have charted on the top five this morning and limited mention on the declines.

Liontown Resources (ASX:LTR) just scraped on the declines with a 3.63% decrease to a share price of $0.93 on the tail of no news.

The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market.

The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.

It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
