Miners fall behind on ASX

While the materials sector leads the declines, the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) has jumped 0.23% with an additional 19.90 points, bringing the platform’s total to 8,615.70 points this morning (4 July) as of 10.35am (AEST).

Materials is the only sector dragging the S&P/ASX200 down this morning, with miners seeing a 0.89% drop.

In spite of its 580% average volume increase over the past 90 days, Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) has dropped 2.08% to a trading price by $107.96 per share.

With no recent news made available to the market, IGO (ASX:IGO) is also experiencing the current lows of the sector, decreasing 0.23% in value this morning to a share price of $4.31.

The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market. The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.

It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
