Metro continues hitting new monthly bauxite record

Metro Mining (ASX:MMI) continues to deliver increased production at the Bauxite Hills Mine in Queensland, with a new monthly shipment record of 793,420 wet metric tonnes (WMT) for October 2024.

This latest record is a 2% increase from September’s shipment record of 780,000 WMT, as well as an 18% increase from October 2023.

Metro Mining, which has a market capitalisation of $315.63 million, reports year-to-date bauxite shipments now total 4.45 million WMT.

During October, the company also achieved a new daily transhipment record of 33,364 WMT.

Notably, last month’s results were achieved despite one and a half days transhipping lost due to the delayed arrival of a chartered ocean-going vessel and one and a half days delayed due to planned maintenance shutdowns.

Metro Mining says all assets in the flow sheet are now operating at nameplate capacity, however, further optimisation and integration upside exists.

Further, the offshore floating terminal, Ikamba, has completed its final commissioning and operational tests.

Bauxite is the ore used to make aluminium — which is a critical metal in the energy transition.

Metro Mining is a bauxite producer and explorer that wholly owns the Bauxite Hills Mine operating on the Weipa bauxite plateau, 95km north of Weipa near the coast on the Skardon River.
