Metal Energy (CVE:MERG) has commenced its inaugural drill program at the NIV Copper-Gold Project in British Columbia.
The company plans to drill over 6,000m across 12 holes to test a copper-gold porphyry target, with the first hole collared at the property’s northern target.
CEO Charlie Greig says the program represents more than a decade of preparation work on the 5km system.
“We are excited to finally drill-test NIV,” Greig says.
“It’s been over 10 years since Metal Energy’s technical adviser, Alex Walcott, and I first started exploring this ground, and everything we’ve learned since has only deepened our conviction that NIV is one of the most compelling untested porphyry copper-gold targets in British Columbia.”
Drilling is intended to target a 5km-long gold-copper-silver-molybdenum soil geochemical anomaly. Geophysical surveys have identified induced polarisation chargeability highs at depth along with an enveloping northwest-trending airborne magnetic low.
‘High-tenor’ gold, silver, and copper grab samples have been collected throughout the soil anomaly, with widespread alteration characterising the underlying rocks.
Nearby drilling by Northwest Copper (CVE:NWST) in 2021 intersected 81.6m of 0.41% copper, 0.20 grams per tonne gold, and 0.9g/t silver from surface approximately 2km east of the property.
The NIV property spans more than 12,350 hectares across two claim blocks located 32km south of Centerra Gold’s (TSE:CG) Kemess mine complex.
Metal Energy is a Toronto-based junior critical minerals developer focused on copper, gold, and nickel, with assets in Canada.
