MCA recognises Queensland Resources Council CEO’s ‘legacy’ as he steps down

The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) has congratulated Queensland Resources Council (QRC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ian Mcfarlane and recognised his mining industry ‘legacy’ following his decision to step down from his position at the end of this year.

Mcfarlane has worked for QRC for 7 years and helped oversee industry improvements in safety, training, inclusion, and diversity, alongside guiding the industry in Queensland through the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping open mines that ‘significantly’ contributed to the nation’s economy.

The MCA says Ian has left an ‘important’ legacy to the mining industry, advocating ‘strongly’ for the sector as the Federal Resources Minister under the Howard Government and in recent years as QRC’s CEO.

The organisation says Mcfarlane has worked hard to oppose the Queensland State Government’s decision to ‘significantly’ increase coal royalty taxes that are putting Queensland jobs and future investment at risk.

Minerals Council of Australia Chief Executive Officer Tania Constable says: “(Ian) hasn’t only been a strong advocate of mining in Queensland but across Australia, and I want to thank him for his support for the industry nationally.

His contribution to public life since 1998 has been tremendous”

His contribution to public life since 1998 has been tremendous, including 18 years as a federal Member of Parliament holding ministerial positions for small business, resources, industry, science, and tourism.”

The Minerals Council of Australia advocates for Australia’s minerals industry, promoting and enhancing sustainability, profitability, and competitiveness.

Queensland Resources Council is an independent body representing the commercial developers of Queensland’s minerals and energy resources.
