Maximus launches drilling across gold, nickel assets

Maximus Resources (ASX:MXR) has begun a 1,500m reverse circulation (RC) drill program across the Hilditch Gold Project and Kandui Nickel prospect in Western Australia.

At Hilditch, drilling comprises 7-holes for 850m, targeting 2 previously identified parallel lodes to bolster a potential gold resource.

Meanwhile drilling at Kandui comprises 7 holes for 650m and is designed to test a potential ‘high-grade’ plunge from existing nickel mineralisation and revised basal contact uncovered through platinum group elements (PGE) soil sampling.

Drilling is expected to take 1 to 2 weeks to complete, with assay results anticipated in 4 to 6 weeks, following sample submission.

Commenting on the drill program, Maximus Resources Managing Director Tim Wither says: “This latest drill program follows up on previous drilling at Hilditch, which successfully identified 2 previously unknown gold-bearing lodes.

Current gold resources at Hilditch are shallow and this drill program specifically targets the extension of all known lodes. Hilditch’s shallow gold resource is very amenable to rapid open pit mining, with this latest drill program designed for a potential resource update.

In addition to the Hilditch drilling, a separate nickel exploration drill program has been allocated to Kandui. Significant nickel mineralisation was previously identified at Kandui, and recent geological modelling suggests opportunities for a high-grade shoot.

Legacy exploration focused on outcropping nickel-bearing gossans which may not be the true basal contact position, and this program will provide information vital to assessing the potential for high-grade zones of nickel sulphides. Drilling was also incorporated in an untested area, identified through elevated PGE soil sampling.”

Maximus Resources is an ASX-listed mining explorer and developer, focused on its gold and base metals assets in Western Australia. As of 30 June 2023, the company had $3.6 million cash at hand, according to its latest quarterly report.
