CORE Innovation Hub Made in the Pilbara

Made in the Pilbara CORE for SME grants

CORE Innovation Hub is delivering the Made in the Pilbara Grant Program, with $500,000 funded by the Western Australian Government and BHP (ASX:BHP), to advance regional manufacturing and innovation.

The program intends to support small-to-medium enterprises (SME) based in Pilbara to introduce advanced manufacturing, strengthen reliance on local supply chains, and provide the market with new proof-of-concept technologies.

Funding will be offered through two grant streams, including the small grants valued up to $50,000, and the innovation seed funding, valued up to $25,000.

Applications are now open for grants and will close on 19 December 2025. Winners will be announced by 27 February 2026.

Core Innovation Hub Western Australia Innovation Lead Kate Spencer says regional manufactures play a key role in boosting the state’s economy.

“By providing targeted support for technology adoption and skills development, this program will help unlock new opportunities for local businesses to scale, compete, and collaborate,” Spencer says.

“Our aim is to make sure the Pilbara is not only known for its resources, but also for its innovation and manufacturing strength.”

Along with the government’s Made in WA initiative, Western Australia is focused on creating more jobs within the state to strengthen the local economy, while simultaneously aligning with BHP’s 2030 social goal to partner with communities to deliver economic, social, and environmental outcomes.

BHP Western Australia Iron Ore Asset President Tim Day says efforts in the Pilbara are crucial to the success of the state and the nation.

“Through this program, we’re backing local SMEs to innovate, grow and create new jobs, build resilient supply chains, and succeed on the global stage,” Day says.

“It’s all about keeping the Pilbara firing, and we’re very pleased to play our part.”
