Lunnon Metals kicks off 2D seismic trial at Silver Lake-Fisher Project

Minerals resource exploration company Lunnon Metals (ASX:LM8) has begun a 2D seismic trial on key traverses at the Silver Lake-Fisher (SLF) Project in order to double its nickel rights tenure within the greater Kambalda Nickel Project in Western Australia.

The company says the 2D seismic trial has been designed to survey 2 seismic lines on the surface of Lake Lefroy, which is located immediately east of the historical Silver Lake mine and to the south of the Long Operation, which is owned by Mincor Resources (ASX:MCR).

Lunnon Metals notes the Long Operation is host to the Victor (McLeay) and Long (Moran) channels which, when combined with channels discovered from historical surface exploration by WMC Resources, highlights a total of 6 potentially nickel mineralised channels. These channels have potential to strike onto and through the company’s recently acquired Long South/Silver Lake “Gap” area.

The “Gap” represents a 2km-square area in which no deep diamond drilling has ever taken place.

Lunnon Metals also notes success with the 2D trial will demonstrate that this technique is effective on, and through, the lake sediments and will allow it to commit to the full 3D survey, which will likely carry an all-in-cost over $1 million and take between 3 and 6 months to execute.

Addressing the start of the seismic trial Lunnon Metals Managing Director Ed Ainscough says: “We are pleased to finally get on the ground in this highly prospective corridor. It’s early days obviously but the nickel mines surrounding the “Gap” were some of the biggest nickel producers that Kambalda has seen.

Lunnon metals is embarking on a methodical, technically driven exploration program looking to maximise our chances of making a significant discovery in an area that has never been tested before.”

In addition, Lunnon reports its objective is to also acquire the new 3D seismic data generated immediately south of the Long-Victor 3D survey, as well as complete a full litho-stratigraphic, and structural re-interpretation of the 2km-square “Gap” area.

It is reported that if the new 3D seismic survey results record any potential continuation of the channels annotated in the 2012 GA Long-Victor nickel mine 3D survey, Lunnon will consider this a ‘highly successful’ outcome that would enhance the prospectivity of the acquired nickel rights, and provide high ranking, drill ready targets.

With the 2D seismic trial now underway, Lunnon Metals announces it will move forward with a surface diamond drilling (DD) program on high-priority targets generated at the Silver Lake area.

Other activities being undertaken by the company include a downhole transient electromagnetic surveying of selected new company surface diamond holes in order to determine if any in-hole or near-hole, high conductance plates are present.

Lunnon Metals is an ASX-listed resource exploration company which owns 2 prospective Western Australian projects with a focus on nickel sulphide exploration and discovery. The company’s Kambalda project is located south of the township of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia and covers a total landholding of about 47km-square across 2 parcels of 19 and 20 contiguous granted mining leases situated within the Kambalda Nickel District.

This world-renowned nickel district has produced in excess of 1.4Mt of nickel metal since its discovery in 1966 by WMC Resources.
