Lunnon Metals delivers 7m @ 9.22% nickel hit at emerging Baker discovery

Lunnon Metals (ASX: LM8) has announced ‘high-grade’ nickel results including 7m @ 9.22% Ni from 120m during RC infill drilling at the Baker Shoot discovery within its Kambalda Nickel Project in Western Australia.

The nickel sulphide mineralisation observed in these results is interpreted by the company as being related to structures identified by earlier DHTEM surveys.

Standout grades from the first round of results include:

  • Hole ECO21RC_040: 7.0m @ 9.22% Ni from 123.0m downhole; including
    • 6.0m @ 10.5% Ni from 124.0m
  • Hole ECO21RC_022: 8.0m @ 2.52% Ni from 97.0m downhole including;
    • 3.0m @ 4.74% Ni from 102.0m
  • Hole ECO21RC_024: 6.0m @ 3.67% Ni from 132.0m downhole including;
    • 4.0m @ 4.86% Ni from 133.0m

In addition, Baker has also delivered a series of elevated platinum and palladium assays including:

  • Hole ECO21RC_040: 6.0m @ 0.70g/t Pt and 1.55g/t Pd from 124.0m
  • Hole ECO21RC_024: 4.0m @ 0.61g/t Pt and 1.14g/t Pd from 133.0m

Speaking on the results, Lunnon Metals Managing Director Ed Ainscough said: “Baker has delivered a great start to the year! As we had hoped, based on the visual and XRF work carried out during the programme, the assay results are now confirming Baker as an exciting, high grade, near surface discovery.

the assay results are now confirming Baker as an exciting, high grade, near surface discovery”

We will get both RC and diamond rigs back to target these thick, high grade zones as they have the potential to have a significant impact on the maiden Mineral Resource.”

The company has noted that these nickel assay results are extremely close to, or better than levels indicated by earlier in-field XRF analysis.

Importantly, the results for key elements such as iron, magnesium, and sulphur are also considered typical of those expected to be associated with Kambalda nickel sulphide mineralisation.

Additional RC infill and diamond drilling results are being received on a ‘regular’ basis, with further updates expected over the coming weeks.

Moving forward, Lunnon is set to undertake follow-up RC and limited diamond drilling to gain a more-thorough understanding of the mineralisation leading up to a planned maiden mineral resource estimate.

The company reports that geological modelling for the MRE is already underway, while an additional diamond core is also planned to generate detailed geotechnical and metallurgical characterisation of the ‘high-grade’ zone.
