Lunnon Metals completes DD operation at Baker Shoot within Kambalda Nickel Project, Western Australia

Lunnon Metals (ASX:LM8) reports that it has received results from a recently completed diamond drilling (DD) operation at the Baker Shoot, as part of its Kambalda Nickel Project in Western Australia. 

The completed DD operation was commenced to infill and extend the project’s initial JORC 2012 compliant Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) and has returned standout intercepts up to 6.0m @ 10.95% Ni and 2.8m @ 4.12% Ni from drillhole ECO22DD_010. 

Other ‘significant’ intercepts from drillhole ECO22DD_010 include:

  • 2.00m @ 1.36% Ni, 0.10% Cu, 0.02% Co from 147.0m 
  • 2.80m @ 4.12% Ni, 0.24% Cu, 0.11% Co from 151.4m 
  • 6.00m @ 10.95% Ni, 1.24% Cu, 0.18% Co, 2.6g/t Pd, 1.0g/t Pt from 166.9m, and;
  • 3.50m @ 1.64% Ni, 0.53% Cu, 0.05% Co, 0.9g/t Pd, 0.1g/t Pt 

Commenting on the results, Lunnon Metals Managing Director, Ed Ainscough, said: “The number of diamond holes drilled at Baker has now increased from just three in 2021 to a total of 19.

The company also notes that the deepest reported intercept to date (3.5m @ 1.64% Ni from 218.6m downhole), represents a great interest to Lunnon as it is the second mineralised intercept drilled at the contact between the overlying ultramafic and footwall basalt at Baker.

The potential for nickel sulphide mineralisation hosted within this komatiite-basalt contact proves to be an exciting opportunity to aid in Lunnon’s mission of growing its Baker MRE. 

In addition, results from the hanging wall were taken from the locality and depth predicted by the June 2022 MRE, however recorded better widths and grades than expected on the key ‘higher grade’ surfaces.

These results are expected to be incorporated into a December quarter MRE update. 

Lunnon Metals is a mineral resource exploration company which owns highly prospective nickel and gold tenements centred around the Western Australia township of Kambalda, situated in the heart of the Kambalda Nickel District, which has produced in excess of 1.6 million tonnes of nickel metal since its discovery in 1966.

The company’s Kambalda Nickel Project comprises a total land holding of 47km-square between two parcels of 19 and 20 contiguous granted mining leases respectively and currently boasts an initial MRE of 295,000 tonnes @ 2.75% Ni for 8,100 nickel tonnes in the indicated category and 273,000 tonnes @ 2.82% Ni for 7,700 nickel tonnes in the inferred category at its Baker Shoot.  

With the recent DD operation now complete, Lunnon Metals announces that it should receive assay results regularly and remains focused on delivering a new MRE for the December quarter at the project.
