Legacy Minerals (ASX:LGM) has commenced diamond drilling at the Emu Copper-Gold prospect, a part of the Mt Carrington Project in northern New South Wales.
The eight-hole drilling program, which covers 4,000m, represents the first modern drill test at the Emu porphyry-epithermal target, which last saw drilling 50 years ago.
According to Legacy Minerals, the Emu Porphyry Core and the Emu Alteration Halo SE are the first drill targets for this program, with each hole permitted to a depth of up to 500m.
CEO and Managing Director Chrisopher Byrne says that this marks a milestone for Emu.
“Copper is the primary target at Emu, where historically it was one of the largest-producing copper mines in the Mt Carrington district,” Byrne says.
“While known for its gold and silver endowment, the substantial untested copper potential of the broader project is underlined by historical drilling at the Mt Carrington prospect, which returned 18.9m @ 5.8% copper and 10.1m @ 7.26% copper.
“This drilling forms part of our dual-track strategy of discovery and development, with both Emu and Mascotte offering clear opportunities to grow the existing mineral resource through new discoveries.”
The company shares that the drill rig has already been mobilised, with drilling expected to be completed progressively over the coming three months. Further follow-up and drilling are also planned.
It adds that the Emu prospect is one of three ‘high-priority’ regional targets within the Mt Carrington Project, with both Emu and Mascotte providing the potential for expanding the mineral resource through new discoveries.
