Lachlan Star (ASX:LSA) has commenced reverse circulation (RC) drilling this week at the New Waverley Gold Project following identification of a shallow, ‘high-grade’ gold system.
Lachlan has expanded the program to approximately 4,000m following refinement of its geological model, which highlights potential for multiple quartz reef shoots within a prospective 400m mineralised shear corridor.
The program will infill and extend previously reported mineralisation, including 6.15m @ 8.60 grams per tonne gold (Au) from 46.9m, including 2.9m @ 17.70g/t Au, and 4.6m @ 4.24g/t Au from 18.5m, including 0.9m @ 21.50g/t Au.
New Waverley displays similar geological and structural characteristics to other deposits in the Norseman Goldfield, including the North Royal mine with 1.8 million ounces of past production and the Harlequin mine with 800,000 ounces of past production.
CEO Andrew Tyrrell says the program marks an important step in defining the extent of quartz reef shoots within the broader mineralised shear corridor.
“Our maiden diamond program was critical to improving our understanding of the structural controls on mineralisation and in developing a sound geological model that gives us much greater confidence in where the higher-grade shoots are likely to continue,” Tyrrell says.
The program will test known shoots down-plunge, where these styles of mineralised systems can extend for hundreds of metres, while evaluating additional priority targets that may represent new shoots within the shear corridor.
New Waverley sits in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia, approximately 16km northeast of Norseman, positioned between the company’s Killaloe Gold Project and Pantoro Gold‘s (ASX:PNR) Norseman Gold Project.
The RC drilling program is expected to be completed in approximately three to four weeks, with assay results to follow.
