Krakatoa Resources (ASX:KTA) is nearing completion of the 2026 field season preparations for the Zopkhito Antimony-Gold Project in Georgia.
The company has secured an additional two-year extension to the exploration period under the active mineral extraction licence, signed by the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze earlier this month.
Metallurgical optimisation testwork and preliminary mining studies will be completed by Krakatoa as part of its broader development strategy for the project.
Environmental baseline studies and permitting activities are currently progressing to support project advancement.
The 2026 campaign will focus on resource definition drilling, metallurgical optimisation, and preliminary mining studies, following up on antimony and gold mineralisation uncovered in last year’s campaign.
Mineralisation uncovered in 2025 extends beyond the historical workings.
CEO Mark Major says last year’s drilling campaign delivered “strong results and further demonstrated the high-grade antimony and gold potential at Zopkhito”.
“Securing an additional two-year exploration extension is a highly positive development, giving us the runway to build on this momentum and gives us added flexibility as we move the project forward,” Major says.
“With site access and snow clearance well advanced, we are on track to restart drilling in the coming weeks.”
Surface and underground drilling is expected to begin this month.
Located in the Racha region of Georgia, Zopkhito hosts a resource of 26,000 tonnes of antimony and more than 800,000 ounces of gold, defined through historical exploration.
Krakatoa Resources is advancing the Zopkhito Project in Georgia, while also exploring for other critical and precious metals in Australia.
