Krakatoa Resources (ASX:KTA) has commenced underground drilling for a second season at the Zopkhito Antimony–Gold Project in the Racha region of Georgia.
The company is targeting known antimony and gold mineralisation veins within historical underground workings.
Krakatoa’s 2026 work program is focused on resource definition drilling, metallurgical optimisation, and preliminary mining studies, designed to convert the existing foreign resource estimate into a JORC–compliant resource estimate.
Zopkhito has an existing foreign resource estimate of 225,000 tonnes @ 11.6% antimony for a contained 26,000 tonnes of antimony and 7.1 million tonnes @ 3.7 grams per tonne for 815,119 ounces of gold.
Underground panel sampling and bulk sampling is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
CEO Mark Major says the company is entering an ‘exciting’ time, with the 2026 field season kicking off following the completion of access and site preparation.
“This work program is designed to support the delivery of a maiden JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate and advance early mine development studies,” Major says.
“The 2025 drilling program validated the high-grade nature of the antimony and gold mineralisation, as well as the extension potential at Zopkhito, and we believe the 2026 program will build on the high-grade results.
“With antimony emerging as a strategically critical mineral, Zopkhito has the potential to become a rare and significant European source of antimony, and we are looking forward to a very busy year ahead for Krakatoa.”
Zopkhito has undergone extensive historical exploration, including approximately 27km of underground exploration adits, over 15,000 historical channel and geochemical samples, and prior light detection and ranging and induced polarisation geophysical surveys.
Krakatoa’s 2025 field season at Zopkhito confirmed high grade mineralisation within the historical adits and the presence of an extended gold alteration system, as well as high-grade quartz-antimony vein development from drill testing.
Last year’s drilling campaign intersected mineralisation across multiple target zones, which the company says provided “strong geological validation of the historical model”.
Krakatoa Resources is advancing the Zopkhito Project in Georgia, while also exploring for other critical and precious metals in Australia.
