Kaoko Metals (ASX:KAO) has discovered outcropping copper mineralisation at a new prospect during maiden fieldwork at its Chalkos Copper-Silver Project in Namibia.
The newly named Bootless prospect sits within a 2.2km corridor between the known Otniel and Donkey Hill prospects, significantly expanding the project’s surface mineralised footprint. The company has also extended known mineralisation at both existing prospects, with Otniel expanded by up to 200m and Donkey Hill East by approximately 60m.
Copper mineralisation at Bootless includes chalcocite, malachite, azurite, and chrysocolla across quartzites and carbonates in both vein and disseminated styles. The discovery contrasts with mineralisation at Donkey Hill and Otniel, which occurs largely within quartzite units, indicating structural controls, rather than host lithology, drive copper mineralisation across the project.
Managing Director Gerard O’Donovan says discovering outcropping copper mineralisation early in the maiden fieldwork campaign reinforces the prospectivity of the large land package.
“This reinforces the enormous prospectivity of our large land package and particularly the ground which sits between the high-grade Donkey Hill and Otniel prospects, which are located approximately 2.2km apart,” O’Donovan says.
“The identification of visible copper mineralisation up to 200m beyond the previously known outcrops at Otniel as well as extensions at Donkey Hill East is also an encouraging outcome from our maiden fieldwork program.”
At Otniel, recent geological mapping has identified copper mineralisation extending up to 200m south of previously recognised areas, expanding the total surface expression to approximately 600m along strike.
At Donkey Hill, mapping has extended visible copper mineralisation approximately 60m beyond the Donkey Hill East prospect across three distinct north-south trending zones. The newly mapped outcrops extend the combined surface expression of mineralisation to over 800m.
Assay results from the new sites are expected within six to eight weeks, while the company’s maiden diamond drilling program is scheduled to commence in approximately five weeks. The results will be used to refine target prioritisation and drilling plans.
