Imdex completes Datarock acquisition

Global mining-tech company Imdex (ASX:IMD) has completed the acquisition of the remaining equity in Datarock, targeting expanded digital earth knowledge services across the mining, energy and civil sectors.

The company says the full ownership of Datarock from 1 February 2026, brings a digital earth knowledge (DEK) portfolio fully into the group, strengthening its suite of AI-enabled geoscience technologies.

Imdex CEO Paul House says the company has worked closely with Datarock for more than four years and combining the founders’ vision with Imdex’s network and assets will deliver value for customers.

“The completion of this acquisition is a defining step in the acceleration of our digital strategy across the mining and adjacent earth science sectors,” House says.

House adds that the acquisition enables integration of Datarock’s AI-powered geoscience technology with its existing DEK offerings, including HUB-IQ, aiSIRIS, MinePortal, and Earth Science Analytics’ EarthNET platform, to create a unified, open ecosystem for earth systems data.

The integrated platform is designed to reduce subsurface uncertainty, improve productivity and unlock value from high-quality data for customers across multiple commodities and sectors.

The company notes strategic benefits of the transaction, including a unified earth systems platform with end-to-end workflows linking drilling, geological, geotechnical and operational information, enhanced AI capabilities for advanced decision support, accelerated product development and expanded global market reach through Datarock’s existing customer base.

House notes the acquisition aligns with the broader industry trend towards digitalisation in exploration and resource development, where AI and integrated data platforms are increasingly used to inform targeting, reduce technical risk and improve operational outcomes.

Imdex confirms full profit and loss consolidation of Datarock from 1 February 2026, meaning 100% of the acquired business’s revenue and operating result is now recognised in Imdex’s accounts.

Imdex previously acquired a 51% interest in Datarock through incremental investments made between November 2021 and July 2024. The remaining equity is acquired under a pre-agreed valuation approach for about $31 million.

Datarock’s financial performance to 31 December 2025 and expected group contribution will be detailed at its half-year results presentation scheduled for 23 February 2026.

Liam Webb, CEO of Datarock, says combining Datarock’s AI geoscience capability with Imdex’s global expertise will support closer collaboration, faster product integration and co-design of solutions with customers.

“Together, we’ll turn high-quality subsurface data into faster, more confident decisions across the mining, energy, and civil infrastructure value chain,” Webb says.

The company’s expanded DEK offering now includes cloud-native, AI-enabled technologies such as HUB-IQ for real-time drilling and sensor data analysis, aiSIRIS for spectral mineral interpretation, MinePortal for geological data visualisation and EarthNET for harmonised large-scale earth science data analytics.

Imdex plans to articulate contribution expectations from the Datarock business in its upcoming half-year 2026 results, where investors will gain greater clarity on the financial impact of the acquisition.

In February 2025, Mining.com.au reported Imdex remains agnostic to commodities and earth sciences, and was seeking unique inorganic opportunities for growth across the mining value chain.

These opportunities include upstream in targeting, downstream in production, and in other complementary end markets, all focused on addressing geoscience challenges in subsurface environments.
