Great Western Exploration (ASX:GTE) has completed preparations for an upcoming drilling program at the Oval and Oval South copper-gold targets, as part of the Yerrida North Project in Western Australia.
The four hole diamond drilling program is scheduled to begin in two weeks once access has been re-established after heavy rainfall at the Paroo Station, which sits adjacent to the targets.
Great Western, which has a market capitalisation of $14.79 million, interprets the Oval and Oval South targets to have multiple coincident features, representing potential metal-rich sulphide mineralisation and a “very large copper-gold discovery”.
Once drilling is completed at the Oval target, a short break will be undertaken to allow a down-hole electromagnetic survey to be completed.
The survey and drillhole logging data will be assessed and the geological model refined, which will guide the remainder of the drilling program.
Great Western says the discovery of these “giant” deposits involve identifying “three key ingredients” that have the potential to define a major mineralisation system.
At Oval and Oval South, multiple key ingredients have been uncovered, which greatly enhances the discovery of a giant Winu-style intrusive related copper-gold system. Rio Tinto’s (ASX:RIO) Winu Project is a copper-gold deposit located in the northern Pilbara region of Western Australia, some 320km east of Port Hedland.
These include zones of dense rocks that are conductive interpreted to represent obscured metal rich sulphide mineralisation, magnetic anomalism, a crustal scale feature that stretches greater than 500km long, and favourable stratigraphy.
Both targets also have an intersection of the Ida Fault by a basin defining growth structure and are positioned within an east-west intrusive corridor.
Great Western Exploration is a diversified metals explorer focused primarily on gold, copper, and nickel in Western Australia.
